Redskins Salute Partners with Marine Corps Marathon

October 21, 2015 – Reston, VA – The Washington Redskins’ official military appreciation club, Redskins Salute, and the Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) announce their proud partnership. The Marine Corps Marathon is celebrating its 40th anniversary with the MCM Weekend of events from Friday, Oct. 23 – Sunday, Oct. 25. Over 30,000 runners are expected to participate in the events with many more cheering them on and attending various activities.

Redskins Salute in association with Washington Redskins partner, Knight Point Systems, will be activating at the Health & Fitness Expo on Friday, Oct. 23 and the MCM Kids Run on Saturday, Oct. 24. The Health & Fitness Expo is open with over 100,000 expected to attend, including participants, their families, volunteers and the general public on both Friday, Oct. 23 and Saturday, Oct. 24 from 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. at the Walter E. Convention Center. The Expo showcases hundreds of exhibitors featuring the latest running gear, nutritious options, recovery products, technology, exercise equipment, food and much more.

The MCM Kids Run will be held on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 9 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. in the Pentagon North Parking lot. Over 3,600 children, ages 5-12 will be participating in this one mile event. Parents, families and runners are invited to visit Camp Miles, a free all-day activity area featuring interactive challenges and games focusing on health and fitness.

Marine Corps Marathon wraps up the weekend with the 40th anniversary running of the event on Sunday, Oct. 25. Registered participants will embark on the historical 26.2 mile journey starting at 7:55 a.m. Coordinated by 2,300 Marines and Sailors, the MCM is nicknamed the “Marathon of the Monuments” as it offers a scenic route through the national monuments from Arlington, Va. to the Washington, D.C. area and ends the finish line at the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial.

Redskins Salute offers free events and programs designed to address needs in the areas of education, family services, health and wellness and post-service job creation. Eligibility for Redskins Salute includes all active- duty military, members of the National Guard and Reserves and military veterans from all branches in the U.S. military as well as their family members.
